AHE How-To: Air Force BMT Sock Bun
AimHighErin.com presents a video showing you how to do a "sock bun," although a Conair Bun Maker is used. BMT requirements for hair are much stricter than in the operational Air Force, although your command will set the tone. Hair accessories *MUST* match your hair color, so purchase all necessary supplies prior to BMT, with the exception of spray hair gel (due to FAA restrictions). Have a friend/family member send you spray gel soon after your arrival - it is not available at the mini-mall and it is invaluable!
**The video cuts out at 10 minutes again - sorry!** I was in the process of sharing that it's very common to have a flight more advanced in their training come down to "teach" you how to do your hair. You may end up being that older flight eventually! :)

    2:52 Is there a logical reason for this rule? Or is it just one of the mind-games they use in training? Thank you for serving! ❤️🇺🇸

    Just FYI, your wrap around isn't supposed to be as big or bigger round than your sock bun. Also, if you have thick hair like that, it looks a lot less busted if you do a braid wrap around.

    The only reason why women stay in the military is they cry like a baby and run to the sergeant or C.O. if a man talks to them rough like a man. Men don't run to Sergeant or CO. Men deal with the man has a man. Women try to get the men in trouble when the man treats them like a man.

    What if your hair is too short to use the mesh bun, or even put in a bun at all... my hair a little below chin length. As of right now, I do not think my hair will touch my collar, however it might at some point in BMT

    Braid it and roll it into a bun. Stick ends in. Bobby pin it and pins. Before doing that wet hair mixed in with gel. Same products.

    Thank you for making this video ! How strict are they about the baby hairs on your neckline not being slicked with gel? I have a really hard time pinning those, my flyaways aren’t super long but I don’t want to get in trouble for something like that

    I'm in JROTC and my problem is I have SUPER thick hair and my hair almost always ends up falling out. I don't like to use the dounut because it ends up looking really big and its too short to make a full circle but its too long to wear it down. Any advice?

      Stacy Rodriguez slick your hair back with gel into a low ponytail. Then braid that ponytail and secure the end with a small rubber elastic. Then wrap the braid around itself but make sure that it doesn’t look pointy at the end (make it as flat as possible) and then secure any loose areas with bobby pins

    Would it be helpful just to wear your hair like this when you're going to BMT like on the airplane, and when you get there?

    • @kristenb7380
      @kristenb7380 7 років тому

      Probably not. I'm pretty sure the MTIs would call you out for that. Just like guys shouldn't shave their heads before they leave for BMT because they get called out for that. So if you wanna just blend in and try to just "coast" through basic without getting yelled at too too much, then I would say no.

    you are lucky to have straight hair because when ever i wash my hair and make it dry naturally, it becomes an afro and there is no way i can make it into a donut with my big fluffy hair.

    • @USNsis

      Can you do it if your hair is damp? Does your hair do well with product to smooth it out? You could also consider braids, a braided bun, or a twisted bun if that works better for your hair.

    At my old ballet dance academy, we had to have our hair as perfect as this. If we had fly aways or it just didn't look properly done, our teacher would mess up our hair even more and restrict us from dancing because we would then need to fix our hair. Had to be slicked back. Had to be perfect. 😁 Strict stuff...

    • @USNsis

    • @bryaney779

      Then I would never be able to do ballet because of how messy and curly my hair is. There is absolutely no way that my hair would have no flyaway or even be slick

    I have naturally red hair, and it is very hard to find hair essentials that match my hair color. Do you think it would be okay if I used brown hair essentials? or does it have to exactly match the color of your hair?

    • @USNsis
      @USNsis 8 років тому

      Have you checked on Amazon or at a beauty supply shop? That's usually your best bet. If not, I'd do brown or bronze. It should match your hair color as close as possible.

    • @USNsis
      @USNsis 8 років тому

      As long as they're in regulation, you *should* be fine, but be prepared to possibly have to slick them back and pin them.
